Mojang Studios (the company behind the popular Minecraft video game) has stated that it will not integrate NFTs into the game.

NFTs or non-fungible tokens are unique digital assets that often appear in the form of digital art.

Other major games studios have also embraced the NFT craze, and the gaming industry is considered a major growth market.

Mojang has made it clear that it won’t be joining the bandwagon.

Mojang stated that NFTs create models of scarcity, exclusion that are inconsistent with our guidelines and the spirit Minecraft. NFTs are not inclusive and create a scene of the haves versus the have-nots.

Mojang was also concerned that NFTs in Minecraft might lead to fraudulent activity.

“The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering,” the company said.

“We are also concerned by the possibility that third-party NFTs might not be reliable and could end up costing those who buy them.”

Minecraft’s popularity gives Mojang’s statement heft. According to NPD Group data, Minecraft was America’s most-played video game for the first three of this year.

Microsoft owns Mojang Studios. Microsoft did not immediately respond when contacted by Insider to ask whether Mojang’s statement was reflective of the company’s stance as a whole on NFTs.
